? Can you "manually" index a location once, or is this the type of thing that will always be running in the background? I may not exactly understand the indexing and how it would help in this situation. I have no problems adding folders to the WMP library, whether as shares, drive-mappings, symbolic links, twonky library, etc I am always able to add these files and folders from the QNAP NAS to the WMP library and play them back using WMP12 on my laptop. ISCSI just isn't ideal because of the other purposes and uses of my network share media.

Thanks for the feedback, but I'm still hoping to make this work within the framework and software I already own (since it would seem it's supposed to work). I would be open to suggestions and other equipment options, particularly if someone has streaming from WINAMP to the their home entertainment center using media stored on their NAS. I need it to be able to stream to my non-network-compatible, but expensive, receiver. I bought strictly for its compatibility with Windows 7 and the "Play To" feature.

Sure I could buy a 2TB portable HDD and directly connect it to the laptop, but that's cumbersome, a waste of hardware and space, and a hassle - far from ideal.
